[224] Hooky

224

Today I was “working from home” so naturally I took a long lunch, and went into Seattle to cure my exploration fever. I parked the car, and walked to the Olympic Sculpture Park to look at the sculptures, naturally. I also sat in the shade for a little bit and read a couple chapters of my book, on my iPad. Then I made my way up a couple of blocks to City Center to enjoy the view of the Space Needle, and sit on a different patch of grass to read a few more chapters of my book. When the wetness from the ground started to soak through my pants, I decided it was time to hop on the monorail and head downtown to grab some grub, and find some flowers. I headed to Pike Place, grabbed some Beecher’s mac and cheese, went and sat in a pseudo park to eat and people watch. After I had enough, I found my flowers, and headed back to my car. I somehow managed to miss Friday afternoon traffic, and that oddly made me the happiest, although I thoroughly enjoyed everything else.

[223] Do You

223

Guys…I enrolled in an 8 week letterpress class! Maybe I was inspired by an article I read today that said a fine arts degree has one of the worst returns on investment. Obviously I read the article with a grain of salt because I think 100% of my graduating class has a job in the design world. I’m beyond excited. It was a little $$$ but hopefully totally worth it. I’ve been trying to find something extra outside of work that I’ll be continually motivated to do, especially during the week when all I want to do after work is go home, take off the grime from the day, and put on my most socially unacceptable clothes. I can sacrifice the comfort of a good sports bra for the enjoyment and fulfillment that I get from printmaking.

[221] Down Up Down

221

You know when your mood just feels off, and all you want to do is reset and start fresh? I was able to reset, and it came in the form of an hour long phone chat with my mom. I get these waves of homesickness that seem to come out of nowhere. It’s not a traditional homesickness, because I feel like Seattle is my home now, but I miss the people that made Syracuse my home.

My mom always knows what to say to calm me down and remind me how important this chapter in my life is, plus she’s really good at sending me snail mail and packages. My dad knows exactly when to send me an email that makes me tear up with just a few words. I’m sure Jacob would know when I need a cuddle sesh if he wasn’t a dog. And my sister sends me Snapchats that make me snort while I’m laughing.  I’ve got some pretty kickass people in my life.

[220] Yawn

220

Mondays are filled with yawns, snacks, and lots of coffee. It’s an unwritten rule that you’re allowed to slack off a little bit, right? Just kidding, but I really did get in a lot of yawns today. Upbeat playlists help with that, but it didn’t really today.

That shit was awful, sorry. Honestly, nothing exciting happened today. Work was fine, I brought quinoa salad with asparagus, peas, and lemon basil dressing for lunch, I worked out at home, had soup for dinner, and cinnamon Chex with vanilla almond milk for dessert. So basically my day revolved around food.

[219] Marathons

219

I’m not a runner, so I apologize if you thought I’d be talking about moving my body 26.2 with just my legs. I will actually be talking about TV show/movie marathons.

Sunday is a really good day for TV marathons, especially when the weather is bad or you’re still recovering from the day and/or night before. (I feel like the crappier the weather is, the better the marathons on TV are. There has got to be some sort of correlation.) I happen to be a fan of Harry Potter and James Bond movie marathons. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen the movies, I still really enjoy them.

And I had ice cream for dinner, so there’s that too.

[218] Back Pain and Retail Therapy

218

I was supposed to go on an 8 mile hike this morning with a girl from one and one of her friends, but that didn’t happen. My weird recurring back pain decided to show up today. I was in bed until almost 1pm after having a liquid advil breakfast. I finally decided to get up and try to stretch it out, take a shower, and run some errands. When the stretching didn’t help very much, I thought some retail therapy might. I got some fall sweaters, a new pot and pan, and 3 pairs of shoes. I’m already feeling better!

[217] Finally Some Friday Fun

217

Today was an abnormally large amount of fun. Work was work, except that lunch wasn’t the usual lunch. Four of us went to The Matador and nommed on chips and salsa paired with delicious margaritas. What?! Margaritas?! That’s right, it was a drinking lunch, and it was magnificent. Going back to work was not ideal, but it was necessary. After work I went home to change to go out to dinner with my uncle and cousin. We went to a sushi place just down the road, and it was really good, and, they do take out. This is bad news for my wallet. Post dinner I headed to the Mariners game for a date. They lost, and my date was eh, but he bought me a beer so that made it more tolerable.

[216] Broken Seal

216

So I’ve been trying to drink more water lately. (Like 3, 32oz Nalgene bottles worth.) The benefits have been noticeable; I feel a little lighter, my random headaches have basically stopped popping up, I feel more focused, and my skin feels and looks healthier. The downside to all those great changes is that I’m peeing A LOT more. I’m pretty sure I’m getting up from my desk or a meeting every 30 to pee. I try and hold out as long as I can in the morning because I know once I break the seal, it’s over. Which is fine, I guess. I mean I’m sort of getting exercise too, right? The bathroom is all the way on the other side of the building.

At work we have access to free, fruit infused water which helps break up the monotony of plain water, because, let’s face it, it doesn’t taste like anything. The other day there was pear + rosemary water, but a piece of pear was blocking the spout so I couldn’t get any, and the container on the other side was empty, so I had to settle for strawberry + basil. Sad day in the fruity water world.
