[Lavender Learning]

May was a busy month between getting back from vacation, band shows, birthdays, and work, so I was happy to get some quality time with my man Memorial Day weekend. He planned us this little road trip up to Sequim, WA to visit with his aunt and uncle, and see their lavender farm. Lavender is a huge deal in Sequim, they’re kind of known for it, but I’ll get to that a little later on.

We got up pretty early, and headed to the ferry. Miraculously, we were the last car on, and didn’t have to wait at all. The ride was fast apparently, I’d never been on this ferry before, I don’t think, and shortly after we exited the ferry terminal, we passed a gas station with weird, creepy trolls. A ways down the road, Peter had this mischevious grin on his face and said there was something he’d been wanting to take a picture in front of for awhile now. As soon as we got to it, I didn’t need him to tell me what it was.

Still a kid a heart…when it’s appropriate, of course. Which leads me to the next part of our journey, the Olympic Game Farm, where you feed the animals. This is basically a petting zoo on crack, except you can’t really pet the animals, unless you dare. We bought wheat bread, which is the food of choice, although some of the animals didn’t seem that fond of it, and started the driving tour. It was slow going at first until we got to the elk and buffalo areas. Those guys love wheat bread.

Aren’t they cute little nuggets? Well, maybe not little, and they did slobber all over Peter’s truck, so maybe they’re just nuggets.

From the game farm we headed not too far to Peter’s aunt and uncle’s house and farm. Some of the lavender had just begun blooming so the field had a hazy purple coloring to it. With the addition of the rain, it was actually kind of magical. We visited for a little while, and then headed out into the field to see some lavender up close and personal.

We left and grabbed a late lunch on our way out of town. When we got back to Seattle we took a nap with Doug, and simply enjoyed the rest of the day.

[331] I Have an Ass That is Lazy

331

My heat wasn’t working this morning so I wrapped myself up in a blanket and plopped my ass on the couch. I listened to the Syracuse game, which we won, obviously. I also had the Seahawks/Giants game on mute, and basically stopped watching after halftime because it was just too depressing. I also took a nap this afternoon, because, frankly, laying on the couch is exhausting.

I’m going to be home in 5.5 days and I can hardly contain my extreme excitement. Gah!

[274+275] Scanning Eyes

274-275

I have never combined two posts up until today, and the ONLY reason I’m doing it is because I did the exact same thing today, as I did yesterday: read. I’m in an altered…emotional state, so I wasn’t really feeling like the most social butterfly. Plus, that would have involved taking a shower and putting on real clothes which I was SO not feeling. Instead I awoke from a glorious night of sleep Saturday morning and started reading a book that I’ve had on my dresser for maybe 4 months, finished it around 6pm, started the next one in the trilogy, and finally stopped reading a little after midnight.

This morning when I rose from the depths of my down comforter and heated mattress pad, I immediately began to read again. Since it is Sunday, I had the Bills game on in the background, but my eyes were completely focused on the words I was reading. I haven’t binged read like this since June when I started and finished Mockingjay at the Chicago airport on my way back from visiting my family in Syracuse. My eyes felt sore, if that’s even possible, so this afternoon I took a break to actually watch some football.

I’ve managed to start a load of laundry and avoid going grocery shopping today, although that is something I will definitely have to do this week.

[261] Sunny Sunday Sun

261My day started with a cute boy in a bar, watching football, and drinking a mimosa. When I got home I opened up the windows, because the weather was basically perfect, finished up my laundry, watched some more football, albeit sad football, and took a nap. I love waking up with the sun on my face…it’s like drinking an instant cup of happy.

[260] Vortexed

260

I woke up early for no particular reason, except that my body hates me and doesn’t ever want me to sleep in, and decided that I’d watch a couple of episodes of True Blood, but I forgot that one does not simply watch a couple episodes of True Blood. So, I watched 7, in a row. When I finished, I went for a walk in the woods and down to the lake…to take a nap. On the way back up I tripped on a root and when I fell, I seriously whacked my ankle on said root. It hurt…a lot…and I still had to finish walking up the path. I took some ibuprofen and iced my ankle just like old times, it was great, but not really.
